PREVIEW:

This is a true account of my adventures in WWII as a navigator on a B17 doing bombing runs as part of the Fifth Air Force operating out of Italy. After being shot down on my 25th mission, I lived with the Polish Underground from September 1944 until the spring of 1945. Most of this account was written in the summer of 1945 after I was discharged from the service. I finished writing it 64 years later. The incentive to publish it was provided by the publication of the fascinating story of the last flight of our airplane contained in the book “Blechhammer” by Bogdan Zieba. [...]

Thank you mr. Hansler

I just received your book few days ago. Congratulations -- excellent memories. Once again: so many of you still have so much to say. I am just reading your book and must say that your "visit" in Poland was really exiting, more than I thought. I know you mostly from the stories given by your friends and “Prepare to bail out!” shows a little bit more from Hansler. Yes, you were always mysterious to me and it was very hard to get any new information from you. Of course, I understood your privacy and your, let me repeat your words, “leaving the past to the past”, and now I am happy to see another man who is talking about his war experiences in a strange world which forces his fight for survival.
Despite the fact that our books are different a few details your “Prepare to bail out!” is wanted and very good addition to my own. Both of them together will be a great complement. Thank you so much for your effort,
Bogdan
